Air pumps can be used to provide aeration
through water movement or for decorative purposes. Some Internal Protein
Skimmers such as the Aqua Medic Mini and Midi and those manufactures by
Lees also require an air pump to operate. When using an air pump, always
locate the pump either above the water level, or adjacent; however
always ensure that you use a non return valve to prevent back siphoning
of water, as writing from experience, it can be very costly if your
airline starts to back siphon the contents of your aquarium during a
power cut! All air pumps generate a slight hum when operating, however
the selection of pumps that we have available are amongst the quietest
upon the market today. They can be used to power traditional under
gravel filter plants, or when attached to an air stone be used simply to
create bubbles to help to oxygenate your aquarium. This can be
particularly useful during the warm summer months when elevated
temperatures can result in reduced oxygen levels causing stress to your
livestock. The more air stones that you wish to operate, the larger the
air pump you will require, and don't forget that the out put of your air
pump will be dependent upon the length of airline attached to it. The
greater the length of airline, the more resistance that is created
resulting in a reduced output. Therefore always try to think ahead when
purchasing your air pump to any future applications that you may wish to
use it for. |
