About Medications

We stock a number of different medications which have proven to be effective; and which can be tailored specifically to any disease outbreaks that may be encountered. When using medications, it must be remembered carbon should be removed from the filter and the full course of medication should be followed. Furthermore NEVER use more than one medication at any one time! Should an alternative treatment be required following an initial treatment with a product, undertake a very large water change and add carbon to your filter for at least one week prior to the second treatment to ensure that all traces of the first have been removed.

Disease outbreaks are usually the result of either introducing a new fish to an established aquarium, which brings the disease with it; or by stress from either bullying within the aquarium lowering a fish's immune system or the degradation of water quality. Should a disease outbreak be encountered without the introduction of new livestock, it is important that you assess your maintenance regime and the equipment that you have for your tank; especially if multiple disease outbreaks keep occurring. The most common cause for disease outbreaks that we encounter on a day to day basis is a result of a poor maintenance regime and simple errors such as rinsing biological filter media under the tap or a lack of water changes resulting in elevated pollutant levels in the aquarium. Should you be encountering continued outbreaks of disease or need any guidance regarding symptoms and an appropriate treatment, then please feel free to contact us as we would be happy to review the maintenance regime that you have together with the equipment used; and any suitable remedies that you may require.
