Powerheads
There are two main applications for
powerheads within the aquarium, for use with undergravel filtration or
to generate water movement. When using an undergravel filtration system,
a powerhead will significantly increase the water flow through the
gravel of the aquarium, significantly increasing the biological activity
within it. The water movement created at the top of the aquarium where
the water is pumped out of the powerhead creates oxygen exchange
removing the need for an air pump. Powerheads are silent in operation
and so offer a suitable alternative to an air pump should noise be an
issue with your aquarium's location. Powerheads often include
directional flow deflectors and venturi attachments should they be
required, and all include fixing brackets to enable them to be securely
fastened within the aquarium. Powerheads are often useful to create
water movement within marine and reef aquariums. Their compact nature
ensures that they can be hidden within the rock work; and when connected
to a wave maker differing currents can be created replicating nature and
benefiting your livestock. Water deadspots are also reduced helping to
maintain optimum water conditions. When using powerheads to create water
movement within a marine or reef aquarium, you should aim to have
sufficient powerheads to turn over the aquarium's volume of water 10 to
12 time per hour.
Pumps
We have a number of pumps available which
are suitable for returning water from sumps to an aquarium, or to supply
water to supplementary equipment such as a UV Steriliser or a Protein
Skimmer. All of the pumps that we offer include numerous fittings for
hose attachments; and they are fully submersible.
